So. I've been thinking. Haven't we all? This fall I briefly decided fall is my favorite season. The colors swayed me. The warm, plush colors of fall that invite us. They are screaming colors, not to be ignored. They spark. They mark the passing of another year, a year that will fade out and become something new eventually, slowly. These colors make me want everything all at once the way the beatniks did when Ginsberg wrote:
Everything is holy! everybody's holy! everywhere is
holy! everyday is in eternity! Everyman's an
angel!
My assessment of fall as my favorite quarter of the year was brief because given time to consider it, qualifying the season that way sells short its impact. The screaming saturation feels like a call to action. What are you doing today, the colors ask, as we race by. We will not be here forever, silently screaming; red, red, red, on the side of the highway. But we are here now and you better notice. Your life is here now and you better notice.
P.S. In my spare time I make blurry photographs. I want the photos to seem more like paintings, softer renditions than a camera allows.
