YTD- Susie, Eric & Sophie Iris

As a mid-year blog starter, it seems reasonable to rewind for the sake of covering some year-to-date highlights of 2007, though not necessarily in exact chronological order. This is the story of Susie, Eric, and Sophie...

I first met Susie in early 2004 at Mary Mac's Tea Room on Ponce. She and her sister Angie and I met to discuss Susie's upcoming wedding to Eric in Grayton Beach, Florida. At the time I had been in business one year, and meeting with strangers who might entrust me to photograph their weddings still felt new to me. Keep in mind that I had only studied Fine Art at UGA, never business! Images were all I cared about, and that must have been a good thing because Susie liked my book enough to email me a few days later with the exciting news that she wanted me to travel to the beach and tell the story of her wedding. Here she is about to 'walk down the aisle' with her father:

From time to time over the years I would hear from Susie asking about my availability to do portraits for a family member or even just sharing the news that she and Eric bought their first house in East Atlanta. Then last fall she emailed me to say that she and Eric were expecting a baby, a little girl they named Sophie Iris. On March 18 when Sophie was six weeks old, Susie and Eric invited all the grandparents over for documentary images of everyone admiring this amazing new person. It was so touching to see how her young parents absolutely treasured her, and there was a feeling of excitement in the house, like everyone appreciated that nothing would ever be the same because now Sophie is here to make her mark on their lives and their family history.
