Willkommen

Welcome to my blog. When I first heard the word blog, I thought, "Yuck." It sounds like a terrible cough that occurs only when you are very sick. However, years later it turns out there are blogs I frequent because they are entertaining, informative windows of personality. These blogs allow me to keep up the most recent activities and thoughts of people I've enjoyed meeting and others I would like to meet. Most importantly, these blogs offer ideas and inspiration. Since I've grown to appreciate other people's blogs so much, I've decided to make my own contribution to the blogoshpere (this word I do like very much, because it sounds fantastical). I call my blog a Manifesto in homage to the many artists of previous generations who wrote manifestos to declare their freedom from the status quo and boldly introduce new philosophies.

I find Concerning the Spiritual in Art by Wassily Kandinsky the most inspirational Manifesto written in the last century. Here Kadinsky describes the inner necessity of creativity as a spiritual desire. How epic, and how absolutely true. I create because I must; it is necessary for my spirit. I believe we all have within us some level of creativity that we can exercise in many tangible ways. The necessity of creating does not apply only to 'art' as it occurs in galleries and museums- it is evident in science, in progressive business practices, and even in our relationships with other people when we build lasting friendships and marriages. I hope that by occasionally pecking out and publishing some words and illustrations, I can contribute in some small way to the ongoing dialogue about our creative necessities.
