Modernity

I did venture back to the APG critique after the, ah, strong response to my Self Portrait with Gun as Metaphor. On my next visit, I showed a series of photos from an intimate dinner party my friend Lisa Marr threw for her genius boyfriend, "the Jebsta," and by genius I mean Jeb taught at MIT. Also he has the largest album collection I have ever, ever seen, and he shares my appreciation for The Ramones. Lisa is one of my best friends, the kind of person who makes you feel genuinely stronger and better about yourself when you spend time with her. She's currently working on the Kathy Bates/Tyler Perry movie being filmed in ATL. Just a little background on these cool folks... Not surprisingly, interesting people tend to surround themselves with interesting things; I feel my photos are a study of the mood people and things create occupying the same space. Here are a handful of my favorite images-

And of course I made a slideshow (very short) set to an appropriate tune, click the image to view:

The response was generally positive at the the critique. We discussed my penchant for cinematic images that work best when viewed together to build the story/mood. People who rejected the gun images outright said, in paraphrase, "Keep experimenting, we want to see what you do next." Ok. Me too.

Is there such a thing called "reality photography"? There should be - you have a unique eye for capturing the realistic emotions and surroundings of your subjects. It is very raw and private view into the intimate lives of others brought to us by the fabulous Laura.
