Brides Against Breast Cancer

Last Friday Renee and I volunteered for the annual Atlanta tour of the Brides Against Breast Cancer Wedding Gown Sale sponsored by Lei Lydle of Atlanta Bridal. Renee and I agreed we would pick out dresses to try on ourselves after our volunteer hours. A little history- I met Renee in what feels like a looong time ago, as she was planning her wedding to Joe for September of 2005! Renee commissioned me to tell their story and it was natural that we stay in touch over the years because she's a very talented photographer in her own right, trained as a proper photojournalist at UGA while I studying conceptual art and the 4x5 camera (sheet negatives, a big cloth over your head to focus, not exactly fast). Renee and I actually worked together on two weddings in 2006 and I was really impressed with her ability to show me what it felt like to be present in moments I wasn't around for. Here's a super-cute photo of her the dress she tried on-

I tried on two, this was the second and by far my favorite, a truly remarkable gown by Monique Lhuillier. Of course I wouldn't have recognized how beautiful it was on a hanger- I first noticed it when I turned around abruptly and saw it on another bride-to-be, then the dress literally took my breath away. I think it looked better on her, but not too bad on me. ;)

Here are some other sights from the day, PINK of course-

A pair of non-chalant Pugs-

And charming volunteers-

A proud mother, herself a cancer survivor, resting with the gown her daughter purchased-

I learned the following evening that the Atlanta BABC sale garnered over $50,000!!! I'm really happy to have been a small part of it.

What a great cause. I wish I'd known, I would have been there in a hearbeat - but I guess my time to be a bride has passed me by. :)

And you look gorgeous in that dress by the way! Laura
