My friend Renee and I were out scouting photo locations one day and wandered upon the Fresh Roots Farm, where we met Mark DiNatale, expert in all things agricultural and urban. The farm is in West Midtown, after all. I was thrilled to see so many happy chickens with plenty of room to posture and preen. Mark was incredibly gracious in letting us take photos to our hearts content and answering the questions we peppered him with about everything daily operations to names of each of the chickens. Since our visit, Fresh Roots is now home to a lovely pig named Olivia. You can check her out on their blog here.
My favorite chicken was the Chinese Silkie:
Love this photo Renee took of Mark:
I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don't notice it.... People think pleasing God is all God care about. But any fool living in the world can see it always trying to please us back. ~Alice Walker, The Color Purple
Renee's clever photo:
A very happy visiting dog, as photographed by Renee:
And her shot of the festive lights hanging over the garden and chicken coop:
Renee and I were, of course, not in appropriate farm footwear. Her feet against the gravel:
Renee's parting shot of Mark:Thanks for showing us the farm, Mark! We love it and hope to see you again soon.
